This pressure is particularly prominent during the academic journey, as students experience heightened stress and anxiety levels throughout their educational preparation. Objective: This study aimed to ascertain the prevalence of stress and anxiety among dental students during their pre-professional internships. Methods: A correlational-descriptive study was conducted involving 262 students from the fifth to tenth cycles of the Dentistry program at the Catholic University of Cuenca in 2023. The DASS-21 test was administered. Sample size was determined with 95% confidence and a 5% margin of error, employing the finite population correction factor. Results: The prevalence of stress and anxiety was found to be 65.6% among females and 34.4% among males, with an average age of 22.41 years. The age range spanned from 19 to 36 years. Conclusion: In conclusion, this study revealed that within the dental program at the Catholic University of Cuenca, the prevalence of stress and anxiety was higher among female students aged 19 to 36 years during their pre-professional internships.
