Ítem Acceso Abierto Eficacia y seguridad de Ocrelizumab en el tratamiento de esclerosis múltiple(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Cuenca Gallegos, Erika Joselyn; Ochoa Aucay, Jorge Eduardo; 0705395143BACKGROUND: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic neurodegenerative disease with immune system involvement. Today no treatment definitively cures this disease; however, ocrelizumab has proven to be effective and safe during treatment. OBJECTIVE: To describe the efficacy and safety of ocrelizumab in treating multiple sclerosis. METHODOLOGY: A narrative literature review was performed by searching and analyzing scientific articles in databases such as PubMed, Scopus, SciELO, and ScienceDirect, classified within the Q1-Q2 quartiles. PRISMA method was applied, selecting articles in English and Spanish from the last five years (2017-2022). RESULTS: The results found in the different studies demonstrated the efficacy of ocrelizumab, achieving a significant reduction in disease activity, reduction in relapse rate, and disability progression for both patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis and primary progressive multiple sclerosis. The safety profile was acceptable, with mild to moderate adverse events. CONCLUSION: Ocrelizumab demonstrated significant efficacy in reducing relapses in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis and delaying disease progression in primary progressive multiple sclerosis; its benefits outweighed the potential risks. Therefore, it is generally a good therapeutic option compared to other therapies.
