If not detected early and inadequately treated, these depressive disorders can significantly decline well-being and general health. OBJECTIVE: To relate sociodemographic variables with levels of depression during preprofessional internships in dental students of the Catholic University of Cuenca, 2023. METHODS: Regarding the research design and approach, this study is based on a correlational-descriptive analysis, cross-sectional, and non-experimental quantitative approach. It was conducted with university students from the fifth to the tenth cycle of dentistry at the Catholic University of Cuenca. The data were obtained through the Dass21 test in the Google Forms platform, which evaluates anxiety, depression, and stress scales. RESULTS: It was possible to demonstrate that there was no significant correlation according to Pearson's Chi-square (p-value 0.05 <) for the age, origin, and cycle variables (which were the highest) since they failed to meet the criteria for statistical significance. The only significant correlation was found between the gender and depression variables, which predominates more in the female gender. CONCLUSION: The correlation between depression and the sociodemographic variables was determined, in which only the gender variable showed a statistically significant correlation, especially in the female gender with a more frequent diagnosis of mild and moderate depression.
