Ítem Restringido Utilización de células madre mesenquimales en pacientes con insuficiencia renal aguda(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Chuba Lojan, Yaleni Lizbeth; Rámirez Portilla, Cristian Carlos; 1150097648Acute renal failure (ARF) is the abrupt decrease in glomerular filtration rate, resulting in the kidney's failure to excrete nitrogenous waste products and decreased ability to maintain fluid and electrolyte homeostasis. Current treatments have shown great effectiveness, for example, renal replacement. However, this has been associated with a high morbidity and mortality rate. Therefore, it is necessary to look for new therapeutic alternatives to face the increasing incidence of acute kidney injury and thus prevent it from progressing to its more chronic stages. The aim of the present descriptive and narrative literature review was to describe the use of mesenchymal stem cells in patients with acute renal failure, summarizing the existing information on stem cell therapies applied in these patients, and also proving this technique as a clinical tool for reno-protective effects. It is concluded that, stem cells have proved to be a timely and effective treatment approach with promising effects in the regeneration of renal function
