- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoLa Medicina Herbaria utilizada en el proceso de gestación y postparto en el Ecuador: Revisión Sistemática(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2024) Chauca Quizhpi, Evelyn Verenice; Estrella González, María de los Angeles; 0303162408The changes faced by pregnant or postpartum women develop a scenario of risk for various ailments or discomforts, making it essential to attend all prenatal check-ups and avoid administering chemical drugs as they may affect the well-being or survival of the mother and the baby. Objective: To systematize scientific evidence from different theoretical foundations on herbal medicine used during pregnancy and postpartum in Ecuador. Methodology: A systematic review study approached from a qualitative perspective was conducted, with a descriptive scope and design, through the application of the PRISMA 2020 statement, considering the selection of articles from scientific databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Lilacs, Web of Science, Redalyc, and SciELO. Results: During fetal development, anise, flaxseed, lemon balm, and chamomile can be used. During labor and postpartum, rosemary, parsley, avocado seed, eucalyptus, and anise can be consumed. Pennyroyal, rue, and basil are contraindicated in pregnancy due to their abortive properties. Conclusion: In many cultural groups, herbal medicine is a significant option, especially in contexts with limited economic resources, where beliefs and customs persist, and there is limited access to healthcare services.
