- ÍtemAcceso Abierto“Pérdida prematura de dientes temporales y su influencia en la instalación de hábitos: Una revisión de la literatura”(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2022) Chalan Medina, Alex Fernando; Delgado López, María Augusta; 1104852379; ., .Premature loss of primary anterior teeth is a controversial topic in the literature because of t he lack of scientific evidence. Morphological, functional, and psychosocial problems can arise from the premature loss of untreated primary teeth. Objective: To determine whether the premature loss of primary teeth in the anterior sector influences the development of oral habits. Methodology: A search for scientific papers was conducted through the scientific databases Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, and Redalyc. First, 158 articles were reviewed, eliminating duplicated sources. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, obtaining 102 pre-selected papers. Then, we continued reading the title, abstract, and keywords to verify the relevance to the topic, and twelve selected papers were utilized. Results: It was found that the most kequent type of habit was the digital suction, which in the different articles provides different types of malocclusions, where the most regular was the anterior open bite, and the average age at which teeth are lost is from 3 to 6 years. Conclusion: The loss of one or more primary incisors on many occasions can promote the development of habits such as protrusion of the tongue or digital suction, which by keeping the tongue or finger in the edentulous part, prevents the adequate eruption of the permanent incisors. In most cases, complications include crowding of permanent teeth, migration of dental pieces, bite alterations, and esthetic and phonetic problems.
