Ítem Solo Metadatos La apnea obstructiva del sueño, tratamiento del síndrome mediante dispositivos dentales. art. revisión de la literatura.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Castillo Ganchoso, Dianelisys Lisbeth; Sarmiento Criollo, Patricio Fernando; 1208254670According to the WHO (World Health Organization), obstructive sleep apnea is a clinical disorder characterized by frequent pauses in breathing during sleep. It causes microarousals, and alterations in saturation, causing an increase in the resistance of the UA (upper airway), which prevents the normal functioning of the dilator muscles, generally accompanied by loud snoring at night. The appliances accepted by the FDA are lingual retainers, mandibular advancement devices (MAD), and OPAP appliances. The MAD is the most commonly used as it acts as an upper and lower splint connected as a block aiding in a forward mandibular position and also acts as a neuromuscular activator; it can be made of various materials, but the purpose is the same: to help reduce microarousals and maintain an open airway without upper airway collapse. This research was performed by reviewing a bibliographic study of 30 articles with a maximum age of 10 years
