Revisión de la literatura.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Cando Naula, María Soledad; Andrade Molina, Gloria Azucena; 0105141907Introduction: Forensic dentistry constitutes an important branch of dentistry. The dentition is characterized by being unique and particular to each individual, it is practically impossible to find two identical dentitions with their own characteristics. In order to prove the identity of a person through dental pieces it is necessary to build a biological profile through various features, factors and clues such as cavities, scars, embedded pieces, presence of biomaterials such as prostheses, root canals, implants, orthodontic and orthopedic appliances, among others. It is of utmost importance then to know the dental materials that should be recorded in the clinical history, according to the treatment received by the patient and that eventually become ante mortem documents that could be compared with the post-north for Human Identification. In Ecuador, Forensic Odontology has become more important due to the crime rates in recent times, being necessary for the identification of the same. The modern infrastructure and technology of the Laboratories of Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences have facilitated the possibility of performing more technical processes to find the identity of corpses.
