Ítem Acceso Abierto Diseño de catalizador temporal para vendedores artesanales en el Centro Histórico de Cuenca con el sistema estructural Steel Framing(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2024) Calero Chica, Christian Santiago; Angumba Aguilar, Pedro Javier; 0105945463The economic crisis in Cuenca has multiple causes, including unemployment and the rising cost of living. This has led to a significant increase in informal trade, especially in handicrafts, a traditional activity that has lost relevance over the years. Due to their precarious situation, many artisans are forced to sell in public squares without the proper permits. In certain months, they are allowed to occupy these spaces, but the conditions are poor, such as the use of deteriorated tents, which gives a negative image to the environment. Therefore, architectural interventions are proposed to transform underutilized squares into flexible and dynamic spaces for pedestrians and vendors. The preliminary project "Temporary Catalyst" arises from this research, aiming to occupy the squares without altering their identity. A structural system called "Steel Framing" is implemented, allowing for the fast and flexible construction of temporary modules in the squares. The project will focus on two strategic squares in the city: "Santo Domingo Square" and "El Centenario Square," with a high concentration of artisans. This project aims not only to organize commerce but also to reactivate public spaces as places of social interaction. In addition, the proposal aims to be environmentally friendly and adaptable to different urban contexts. The objective is to create better conditions for artisan vendors and to revitalize the squares as safe and dynamic spaces.
