Revisión de literatura(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Caba Perez, Adriana Guadalupe; Ramos Montiel, Ronald Roossevelt; 0201800281Introduction: Bichat's fat pads (BFP), are fat accumulations located under the cheekbones and their main function is to lubricate the buccinator and masseter muscles involved in mastication and to prevent friction between them. They are also necessary in newborns during breastfeeding to be able to suckle. Objective: To know the use of Bichat fat pad stem cells. Materials and Methods: The literature review to gather information on the use of the Bichat fat pad was conducted through an extensive electronic search in various digital databases such as PubMed, Lilacs, Scopus, Cochrane, Springer, Epistemonikos, BVS, Taylor & Francis, Ovid, Dialnet, ProQuest, and Google Scholar. Information searches were conducted from 2012 to 2022 in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. Results: After applying the inclusion criteria, a total of 30 articles were obtained and reviewed. It was found that the Bichat fat pad can be used for closure of oroantral communication, for tumor recession, and Miller class I and II gingival recession. Conclusion: The available literature revealed that the surgical use of BFP should be considered as a main alternative for the repair of intraoral surgical defects due to its high success rate.
