Squamous cell carcinoma is the type of cancer that occurs in 90% of all cancers in the oral cavity, particularly in the tongue, where it occurs between 25% and 40%, causing speech, chewing, and swallowing discomfort. It affects people between 55 and 75 years of age approximately, its etiopathogenesis is unknown, but it could include genetic, chemical, infectious, and physical factors, preexisting diseases, and nutritional failures, among others. A case of an 87-year-old patient is presented, with an exophytic leukoplakia lesion of approximately four by three centimeters in its extension of two years of evolution. An incisional biopsy was performed, resulting in a well-differentiated squamous papilloma. Therefore, it was decided to perform a left hemiglossectomy plus cervical lymph node removal. At the moment, the patient is under periodic control by a specialist. Methodology: The current study is of a descriptive type with a documentary research approach with a non-experimental variable clinical case, for which data was collected from different medical articles on the topic in question from the last six years, searching in different websites such as Scopus, ProQuest, SciELO, among others. Conclusion: Recognizing the pathology in addition to performing a good physical examination can help diagnose the disease based on the patient's clinical manifestations plus the laboratory and imaging tests that are the key to the disease. In this way, we can establish the necessary treatment for the patient to provide an improvement in their symptoms and also enhance their quality of life.
