Its importance lies in the oncogenic potential for developing anal, oropharyngeal, or cervical cancer, the latter being the most frequent. Although at present, the dissemination of information on HPV is wide, a large part of the population is still unaware of it. Additionally, socio-cultural aspects favor the little adherence to preventive strategies, which indicates the need for the intervention of the nursing profession with emphasis on health education according to the cultural context of each people. Main objective: To analyze the scientific evidence on HPV infection in young women in Latin America. Methodology: A literature review was conducted by searching scientific documents in the Science Direct, Scopus, Springer, ProQuest, PubMed, Public Library of Science (PLOS), ResearchGate, and Scielo databases, as well as documents from health organizations. Results: The study consisted of 59 original articles and 10 documents from health organizations, which addressed HPV infection, most studies showed preventive strategies (55%), followed by the wide range of predominant genotypes in Latin America (51%), associated factors (32%), the prevalence in young women (30%) and finally, the interventions of the nursing professional (13%). Conclusion: This review has shown that understanding the prevalence and distribution of HPV in the region helps adapt preventive strategies to reduce costs and increase their effectiveness in combating HPV and cervical cancer.
