Reporte de un caso.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Barahona Sarmiento, Dayanna Lizbeth; Naula Vicuña, Carlos Roberto; 0106119951Gingival hyperplasia is a chronic inflammation associated with the accumulation of bacterial plaque and dental calculus, characterized by an increase in the number of cells, either lymphocytes or plasmacytes. This inflammation can be located in different parts of the gingiva, which can be marginal, papillary, or adherent, thus affecting the main functions of the oral cavity. In addition, it causes an esthetic and psychological compromise to the patient, and in more severe cases, this inflammation must be eliminated with surgical procedures. Objective: To determine the surgical treatment for a patient with severe gingival hyperplasia. Case presentation: Thirty-year-old male patient with no family history of severe gingival hyperplasia. He does not take any medication. Upon clinical analysis, it was observed that severe enlargement of the upper and lower jaw, predominantly in the anterior sector, compromised the patient's masticatory, esthetic, and psychological function. Complementary examinations such as tomography and a hemogram were performed, in addition to the phases comprising a periodontal treatment starting with the Systemic, Surgical, and Maintenance phases.
