Objective: To collect information on oral candidiasis associated with immunosuppressive diseases. Methods and Materials: A thorough review of articles was conducted through digital databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, SciELO, and Science Direct, using keywords indexed in Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) such as oral candidiasis, candidiasis, disease, and immunocompromised host, linked with Boolean operators OR, AND and NOT, and in this manner, information was obtained for this research work. Conclusion: Oral candidiasis is a pathology caused by opportunistic fungi, and it is highly present in immunosuppressive diseases such as HIV, diabetes, cancer, and hematological malignancies such as leukemia and lymphoma. It also occurs in rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Crohn's disease, Sjogren’s syndrome, and psoriasis. Moreover, it also appears in people who are undergoing treatment with chemotherapies, radiotherapies, and organ transplantation. The main risk factor that contributes to the development of oral candidiasis is a deficient immune system given by the disease itself. It is also caused by other factors such as the use of antibiotics, corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, poor oral hygiene, oral prostheses with poor hygiene, and xerostomia among others that facilitate the spread of oral candidiasis.
