Revisión Bibliográfica(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Argudo Luzuriaga, Lisseth Sofía; González Cárdenas, Juan Manuel; 0302039649; ., .Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by a predisposition to experience epileptic seizures due to abnormalities in brain electrical activity, being more frequent in infancy, especially in the first twelve months of life. Factors contributing to its development include hereditary and acquired components, the latter being influenced by the maternal environment and postnatal development of the infant. Multifactorial inheritance and familial aggregation, along with factors such as preterm delivery, low Apgar scores, brain injury due to fetal distress, and maternal complications such as preeclampsia or intrauterine infections, increase predisposition to this condition. Objective: To identify the risk factors associated with epilepsy in infants through a bibliographic review of current scientific articles. Methodology: A research with a qualitative approach, non-experimental design, and descriptive and analytical type of bibliographic review on "Risk Factors Associated to Epilepsy in Infants" was conducted. Conclusions: Epilepsy in infants results from the interaction of complex genetic and environmental factors, like mutations in specific genes and prenatal and postnatal factors. The incidence varies worldwide, with a high prevalence in underdeveloped countries. In addition, coexistence with other disorders, such as autism and cerebral palsy, is common, which may affect the infant's brain development.
