- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoViolencia intrafamiliar en el adulto mayor en Latinoamérica.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Angamarca Padilla, Yesenia E.; Neira Cárdenas, Olga S.; 0302799374Domestic violence is considered a public health and social problem, with greater emphasis on the elderly population, due to their vulnerability caused by physiological, psychological, and emotional characteristics. For this reason, this work aims to conduct a theoretical review of domestic violence in Latin America, determine common behavioral patterns in the different countries, and review the different case studies involving violence against older adults in Latin America that have been represented in modifying the care of this population group. Thus, a methodological process of qualitative approach was used, with a descriptive scope and transversal approach, which, contemplates the scientific bibliographic review of information bases of high-impact journals in the construction of truthful and reliable results. With the systematization, analysis, and interpretation of the information, it was obtained as a result that the development of domestic violence is subject to observational learning, frequent exposure to violent behaviors during the aggressors' childhood, and risky environmental conditions, which combined with the aspects related to the evolutionary development of adulthood generates a greater predisposition to go through situations of violence. Likewise, it has been identified that aggression cases maintain similar and progressive characteristics, i.e., ascending and bidirectional cyclical direction. In conclusion, this phenomenon involves integrating individual, social, demographic, economic, and political variables, i.e., it is multicausal; therefore, intervention should be approached in the same direction to comply with the guarantee of universal human rights.
