Ítem Acceso Abierto “Prevalencia de alteraciones orales en pacientes con trastornos de lenguaje pertenecientes al proyecto UDIPSAI periodo 22-22”(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Asitimbay Paguay, Jhonatan José; Ordóñez Auquilla, José Mateo; Abad Freire, Viviana Daniela; 0302929997; 0104931803; ., .Objectives: To determine the prevalence of oral alterations in patients with language disorders from the Diagnostic, Research, Psychopedagogical, and Inclusion Support Unit (UDIPSAI by its Spanish acronym) project for 2022. Material and Methods: A retrospective study of the patients' dental and medical records referred from the speech therapy area to the clinic was conducted. Relevant data were collected, such as type of oral alteration, age, sex, speech disorder, and whether they had any oral habits. No personal patient data were used; the information was sorted using Microsoft Excel, and precise statistics of the data analyzed were obtained. Results: Twenty-two dental clinical records were examined; according to the analysis, there were 13 pathologies diagnosed in the oral mucosa, classified as alterations in the tongue, lips, gums, and teeth. All the children with a language disorder presented at least one oral alteration. Therefore, both conditions are prevalent. Children with autism and Down syndrome showed a specific language disorder due to their condition. Conclusions: The relationship between oral and language disorders is due to different factors in each individual, whether growth factors, stages of development, nutrition, socioeconomic level, lack of guidance about care and hygiene by parents who neglect children’s oral health or do not regularly visit the dentist. All this leads to alterations in the oral cavity that, in one way or another, can be detrimental to health.
