Ítem Acceso Abierto Elaboración de adobes utilizando lodos generados en la planta de tratamiento de agua potable de Tixán en la ciudad de Cuenca.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2024) Alvarez Abril, Wilson Diego; Quesada Molina, Wilson Diego; 0103243457The main objective of this thesis project is to develop a viable technique for elaborating adobe bricks using sludge generated in the water purification processes at the Tixán plant in Cuenca. The aim is to comply with the norms and regulations established in Ecuador to guarantee the quality and safety of the products manufactured. An exhaustive investigation of the adobe bricks manufacturing process will be conducted to achieve this objective. Data from the Municipal Company of Telecommunications, Drinking Water, Sewerage and Sanitation (ETAPA-EP by its Spanish acronym) will also be collected to characterize the sludge generated at the Tixán Drinking Water Treatment Plant. With the samples collected, mixtures will be made, varying dosages and percentages of sludge to be replaced from 10% to 40%. Test adobe bricks will be made with a minimum of 60% sludge, which will complete their final process. Ten percent of the elaborated adobe bricks will be tested for compressive strength. The results will be analyzed to determine the optimum dosage of the materials used. Based on the analysis, the final test units are expected to meet the established adobe bricks standards (if any) and document the viability of using alumina sludge in their production, representing an economic and environmental benefit. Additionally, this technique is expected to allow for time and resource savings in quarrying and the final disposal of sludge. The outcome of this thesis project will be a sustainable and efficient technique for producing adobe bricks using sludge generated in water treatment processes.
