OBJECTIVE: To identify the socio-cultural determinants that influence exclusive breastfeeding at the Nesting Unit Health Center of the Moreno Vásquez Hospital, period MayOctober. METHODOLOGY: Quantitative, prospective, descriptive research of longitudinal section, universe, 31 pregnant women worked with the whole population. Technique: Survey and Interview; a survey was applied in pregnancy, puerperium, an interview to the month of life of the child, survey at two months, and nursing professionals on the knowledge of breastfeeding regulations. RESULTS: The sociocultural factors that influenced breastfeeding in 31 surveyed mothers, 19.3% have an excellent eating plan, 77.4% regular meal plan and 3.2% poor eating plan, 64, 5% good knowledge about breastfeeding and 35.5% excellent knowledge and the survey executed 25 nursing professionals 24% excellent knowledge, 48% regular knowledge and 28% deficient knowledge. CONCLUSION: Sociocultural factors do influence breastfeeding, which was measured in mothers who fed exclusively breastfeeding for up to 1 month, if it differs between those who were feeding exclusively breastfeeding at 2 months.
