Ítem Acceso Abierto Revisión bibliográfica: Breve visión ética legal de la eutanasia en Ecuador y el mundo(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2021) González Maurat, María Isabel; León Rojas, Edmundo Dante; 0104242904; ., .BACKGROUND: Death involves essentially two ethical concepts: the first is the right of inviolability of life and the second is the decision to die with proper dignity. The arguments for and against euthanasia outline a complex scenario that, in a generalized way, is based on not depriving at life's end. Relevant aspects of euthanasia, international human rights documents, Ecuadorian laws, legal principles used for euthanasia approval were described. OBJECTIVES: The ethical-legal vision of euthanasia in Ecuador and the world was analyzed; describing the countries that authorize it, characteristics for its practice and the ethical-legal principles for its control, as well as identifying the diseases in which it is required METHODS: A bibliographical review of published articles found until December 2021 was carried out, using available network services, with the following inclusion criteria: bibliography in both English and Spanish with a 5-year publication limit, concerning the ethical-legal view of euthanasia. RESULTS: Five countries approve euthanasia, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, Colombia and Canada. The principles on which they are based are such as autonomy, human dignity and solidarity. Ecuador does not authorize this medical practice, and there is a legal gap in its Constitution that does not analyze aspects of the rights of end-stage patients. CONCLUSIONS The data reported by each country in practicing actively euthanasia show, that euthanasia could be safely regulated.
