Ítem Acceso Abierto Uso de terapias complementarias en pacientes oncologicos(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Pérez Suquinagua, Verónica del Rocío; Pichasaca Mendoza, Diego Cristhofer; Puente Arroyo, Anita del Carmen; 0104804158; 0302673389The global increase in cancer rates has driven interest in pharmacological alternatives to traditional medical treatments. These so-called alternative therapies are often used to alleviate the side effects of the diseases and conventional treatments. However, there is a general lack of understanding regarding the holistic integration of these therapies in cancer treatment. Objective: To examine the scientific rationale for using various complementary therapies in people diagnosed with cancer. Methodology: The methodology consists of an exhaustive literature review of institutional repositories to analyze the relevant data about these questions. Results: The results highlight that breast cancer prevails as the most common condition worldwide. Among complementary therapies, yoga, massages, and relaxation techniques are identified, as well as herbal and plant-based treatments to a lesser extent. It is essential to notice that these treatments do not replace the conventional approach but focus on symptom relief. However, a lack of effective communication with the medical team can result in interruptions and interferences in cancer treatment. Conclusion: Alternative therapies can be beneficial when properly integrated as part of a multidisciplinary approach to mitigate the adverse effects of cancer. In this context, nursing care plays an essential role in the care, education, and guidance of patients.
