It became known in the medical field in the XIX century. Still, it was not until the middle of the XX century that it became a safer practice for the mother and the newborn thanks to the advances in surgery and the introduction of aseptic and antiseptic processes, antibiotic prophylaxis, and safe surgical techniques, among which the Joel-Cohen is mentioned. Objective: To determine the main advantages and disadvantages of the Joel-Cohen technique in cesarean section through a bibliographic review. Method: A literature review was conducted with a descriptive qualitative approach, developed based on examination and analysis, using information published in the last five years, which has a scientific and academic nature. Results: This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of cesarean section history through the ages, focusing on one of its techniques that, over the years, has become widely employed by gynecologists, in this case, the Joel-Cohen technique, which through cohort studies, literature reviews, and repository theses, seeks its advantages for patients and the public health system and also the disadvantages of its application in women.
