In Cuenca, the abandonment of public space is due to deficiencies in public policies, inadequate design, and increasing insecurity; these are factors that deteriorate the quality and perception of the urban environment. This thesis aims to develop a preliminary revitalization proposal for a vulnerable plaza in the city's Historic Center. A three-phase methodology was developed to achieve this objective: the first phase consists of bibliographic research on the evolution of plazas, the foundations of sustainable tourism, and reference case studies that provide key elements for the development of design proposals; the second involves the research and selection of the most vulnerable plaza using tools such as field studies or surveys; and finally, the third phase consists of synthesizing the collected information to generate strategies based on the case studies and the principles of sustainable tourism. Therefore, the resulting preliminary project seeks to address the initial problems and deficiencies of the selected plaza.
