The project addresses the preliminary design of a new airport for Cuenca, Ecuador. This initiative responds to the limitations of the current airport, such as the runway size, limited availability of international flights, and logistical issues. The proposal aims to relocate and design the airport outside the urban area while reducing noise and environmental pollution problems. It is proposed to be implemented in the Tarqui sector by complying with international civil aviation regulations while considering connectivity, accessibility and environmental integration. The design will include feasible architectural features, adequate infrastructure, and sustainable development strategies, taking similar projects as references. In addition, the overall needs for its development will be analyzed, integrating the element of modernization. Relocation is important, as the case studies show significant economic and social development. For the design development, comparative strategies of potential sites are considered, as well as the subsequent preparation of the preliminary project that complies with international and local requirements.
