Ítem Acceso Abierto Diseño de viviendas en contenedores con el propósito de reducir la huella de carbono y mitigar los efectos de desastres naturales en sectores afectados por inundaciones(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2025) Ucho Sarmiento, Ariel De Leandro; Borja Pozo, Rafael Enrique; 0106517899This thesis focuses on designing container-based housing incorporating hydraulic elevators to reduce the carbon footprint and mitigate the impact on areas affected by flooding. The research focuses on regions particularly vulnerable to natural disasters, especially those affected by flooding caused by the El Niño phenomenon. In order to carry out this project, principles of sustainable design will be explored and applied, focusing on materials and construction techniques that minimize environmental impact. A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of the selected materials and processes will be conducted to evaluate and reduce associated carbon emissions. Furthermore, a preliminary housing design will be developed, including detailed architectural and structural plans, ensuring that the containers are adapted to include hydraulic elevators. This design will be aimed at offering accessibility and safety, meeting the residents’ needs. The expected outcome of this research is to demonstrate that container-based housing with hydraulic elevators can be a viable housing solution, especially in climate risk contexts. It is anticipated that these housing units will not only reduce the carbon footprint but also improve the quality of life for residents, providing an affordable and sustainable option. This thesis will contribute to the field of sustainable architecture and the resilience of communities against natural disasters.
