- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoIntervenciones de enfermería en cáncer óseo(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Gutama Chabla , Elías Romario; Altamirano Bautista , María José; Cabrera Guillen, Valeria Paola; 0350229670; 0104867734Bone cancer is a malignant pathology characterized by the synthesis of bone and osteoid substances by tumor cells. It is the fifth cause of cancer and affects children and adolescents. Methodology: Descriptive and narrative bibliographic research was carried out, and databases such as PubMed, ProQuest, Medline, Medigraphic, Redalyc, Dialnet, SciELO, Scopus, Latindex, and institutional health pages such as the Ministry of Public Health of Ecuador and the World Health Organization in English and Spanish were taken into account. It applied inclusion criteria, limiting the selection to research from the last five years. Results: The prevalence of bone cancer constitutes 8% of childhood neoplasms. Among the associated factors, alcohol consumption, smoking, bone fractures, ethnic factors, low sun exposure, bone loss, nutritional deficiencies, and low physical activity were found. Regarding complications, they occur as a consequence of pharmacological treatment and surgical problems. In addition, the presence of pathological fractures, complications in the surgical wound, neuropathy, and pulmonary fibrosis necrosis were observed. Regarding treatment, it is primarily surgical. Finally, nursing care includes pain management, monitoring of vital signs, emotional support, adequate nutrition, and promoting self-care. Conclusions: Bone cancer is a pathology with signs and symptoms that puts people's lives at risk. Despite advances, there are still significant challenges in its diagnosis, treatment, and nursing interventions to improve the care of patients with this type of cancer.
- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoIntervenciones de enfermería en el manejo de la flebitis(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Garcia López, Jennifer Alexandra; Barrera Miranda, Silia Patricia; Cabrera Guillen, Valeria Paola; 0105485437; 0106374176Introduction: Phlebitis is the inflammation of the vein, due to the puncture of peripheral or central venous access, for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. This condition presents characteristic signs of infection in patients, such as pain, edema, erythema, and pus in more severe cases. Objective: To describe nursing interventions in the management of phlebitis. Methodology: A descriptive-narrative literature review was carried out with a search and selection of articles related to the research topic in English, Spanish, and Portuguese found in high-impact scientific databases. The health sciences descriptors were used for the keyword search, and the Boolean operators AND and OR for the search equations. Results: Phlebitis is more prevalent in patients undergoing hospital treatment. Factors associated with this condition include antibiotic therapy, time spent with the device, age, comorbidities, and bad habits; the main complications may be extravasation and occlusion. Therapy for phlebitis is administering warm compresses, applying ointments, and, in more severe cases, using of tilapia skin. Nursing interventions focus on prevention through skillful management of these venous accesses, patient education, and proper hand washing. Conclusion: The decrease in the prevalence of phlebitis relies on proper manipulation, education, and hand hygiene before and after contact with venous accesses. Keywords: Phlebitis, periphlebitis, prevalence, risk factors, nursing care.
- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoIntervenciones de enfermería en pacientes pediatricos con hernias(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Salas Vera, Saida Marisol; Vanegas Tacuri, Daniela Cristina; Cabrera Guillen, Valeria Paola; 0106013899; 0105732085Introduction: The prevalence of hernias in pediatric patients varies according to age, gender, and geographical factors. An early approach is crucial for children's health, highlighting the importance of nursing care. Method: A literature review was carried out in scientific databases such as Scopus, Elsevier, Mediagraphic, Redalyc, SciELO, PubMed, and institutional pages including World Health Organization, Pan American Health Organization, National Institute of Statistics and Censuses. In the same way, the Health Sciences Descriptors were used for the keywords in Spanish, and the Medical Subject Headings were used for the English language. In addition, the main Boolean operators, AND, OR, NOT, and search equations were used. Results: Pediatric hernias have a variable prevalence. On the other hand, factors such as genetic predisposition, premature birth, and low birth weight increase the risk. Complications include strangulation and intestinal obstruction; the decision of surgical treatment is a debated topic since some can be resolved spontaneously. Finally, nursing interventions are based on empathetic communication, detailed information and emotional support; they are essential in pre-care and postoperative, contributing to the comprehensive recovery of pediatric patients. Conclusions: Nursing intervention in pediatric patients with hernias is crucial as it offers complete care to the child and their family. This constitutes a fundamental element in providing high-quality pediatric care, ensuring effective and complete care. Keywords: Hernias, pediatric patients, interventions, approach, nursing.
