Universidad Católica de Cuenca10BT2024-TMed-14https://dspace.ucacue.edu.ec/handle/ucacue/16724Antecedentes: El hiper e hipotiroidismo son una de las patologías principales a nivel global, sobre todo en mujeres, la terapia implica el uso de fármacos y procedimientos médicos que contribuyen a regular la función de la glándula y reducir la sintomatología. Sin embargo, en ocasiones las reacciones adversas ocasionan problemas en la calidad de vida del paciente, es por ello que se pretende conocer tratamientos alternativos que contribuyan a aliviar este tipo de enfermedades. Objetivo: Identificar los efectos del uso de plantas medicinales como coadyuvantes en el tratamiento de pacientes con hipotiroidismo e hipertiroidismo. Metodología: Se elaboró una revisión bibliográfica de enfoque cualitativo, de alcance descriptivo y diseño experimental. Enfocada en la recolección de literatura publicada en los últimos 5 años de las principales bases de datos científicas. Resultados: En el estudio se incluyó un total de 31 publicaciones, de acuerdo a los objetivos y criterios de inclusión establecidos. Conclusiones: La presente revisión bibliográfica permitió demostrar el efecto beneficioso de las plantas medicinales sobre el hipo e hipertiroidismo. Su uso se considera eficaz e inocuo sobre el ser humano ayudando en la regulación de las hormonas tiroideas y su reversión del tejido tiroideo desde el punto de vista histológico ocasionado un mejoramiento sobre la glándula.Abstract: Hyper and hypothyroidism are some of the main pathologies worldwide, especially in women; therapy involves the use of drugs and medical procedures that contribute to regulating the function of the gland and reducing the symptomatology. However, sometimes adverse reactions cause problems in the patient's quality of life. Therefore, the aim is to learn about alternative treatments that contribute to alleviating this type of disease. Objective: To identify the effects of the use of medicinal plants as coadjuvants in the treatment of patients with hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Methodology: A bibliographic review with a qualitative approach, descriptive scope, and experimental design was conducted. It focused on collecting literature published in the last five years from the primary scientific databases. Results: Thirty-one publications were included in the study according to the established objectives and inclusion criteria. Conclusions: This bibliographic review demonstrates the beneficial effects of medical plants in hypo- and hyperthyroidism. Their use is considered proper and innocuous on the human being, helping in the regulation of thyroid hormones and their reversion of the thyroid tissue from the histological point of view, causing an improvement in gland function.
