El virus de la viruela símica es una zoonosis viral que está causada por el virus Ortopoxvirus que es un virus de doble cadena de ácido desoxirribonucleico. Es importante diferenciar entre ciertas características sintomatológicas de la viruela símica y las que tienen otros tipos de viruela que no difieren mucho. Conocer cuáles son los métodos diagnósticos que se puede emplear para identificar este virus, beneficiara al identificar frente a que virus estamos y así se podrá elegir cual es el tratamiento que mejores resultados se pueda obtener. Hasta el momento no existe un tratamiento específico para los pacientes con infección por viruela símica, sin embargo, se está manejando con antivirales que ya han sido utilizados con anterioridad y con ciertas vacunas como prevención, evidenciándose beneficios. Se realizará una revisión bibliográfica narrativa con el objetivo principal de describir el manejo de la infección por viruela símica, para poder concluir cuál de los antivirales administrados es el que mejor resultado ha dado contra este virus.Monkeypox has caused concern throughout the world and especially among health personnel about whether or not this virus will constitute a new public health threat. The monkeypox virus is a viral zoonosis that is caused by the orthopoxvirus virus, which is a double-stranded deoxyribonucleic acid virus. There are important differences between certain symptomatological characteristics of monkeypox and those with other types of smallpox that do not differ much. Knowing which are the diagnostic methods that can be chosen to use to identify this virus, benefit from identifying which virus we are facing and thus it will be possible to find the treatment that can obtain the best results. So far there is no specific treatment for patients with monkeypox infection, however, it is being managed with antivirals that have been used before and with certain vaccines for prevention, showing benefits. A narrative bibliographic review will be carried out with the main objective of describing the management of monkeypox infection, in order to conclude which of the administered antivirals has given the best results against this virus.
