In the Ecuadorian inter- Andean Region, a more than 20% mortality rate has been observed in calves due to immunosuppression caused by stress from extreme temperatures. This study aimed to assess the use of different types of thermal blankets for the acclimatization and resilience of calves in these scenarios. It worked with four weaned crossbred calves aged over two months, weighing between 70 and 85 kg and 65 to 75 cm in height. Under a crossed-block experimental design, where each animal was applied to 4 different treatments: the use of a commercial thermal blanket, handmade jute blanket, no blanket and sprayed blanket, and a control. The study results showed that the animals with a commercial thermal blanket exhibited a higher average rectal temperature (37.62 ºC±0.22) compared to those covered with a jute blanket (37.15 ºC±0.29), those without any blanket (37.33 ºC±0.36), and those wet without a blanket (36.83 ºC±0.25). In addition, these animals show a greater comfort reflected in their behavior, finding that using commercial thermal blankets had significant benefits in the motor and physiological activity of the calves compared to handmade products. This theoretically contributes to the concept of resilience in calf raising in the Andes of southern Ecuador, provided that the fibers they are made meet specific thermal conditions for the case.
