HD helps with metabolic alterations caused by CKD; however, this process contributes to a progressive decrease in amino acids and a release of cytokines, leading to more significant muscle protein catabolism. HD patients engage in physical activity less frequently than healthy individuals. For instance, a 40-year-old person undergoing HD is less active than a sedentary 80-year-old person. The reduction in physical activity contributes an increase in mortality rates. Before implementing an exercise plan, it is essential to assess functional capacity for physical activity and aerobic endurance. Tests such as "6-min walking test," "timed up and go test," "sit-to-stand test," and "step count" can be utilized for this purpose. It is essential to mention that these patients must perform personalized exercises, considering the comorbidities they present and their physical state. General Objective: To describe the effects of physical exercise in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis Methodology: This paper is a narrative bibliographic review. A search for articles was conducted using various search engines available at the Catholic University of Cuenca library, including Google Scholar, Redalyc, Scopus, Taylors & Francis, PubMed, and Cochrane. This information is up-to-date, and the articles are indexed.
