The maternal morbidity that occurs when the delivery is performed by cesarean section is the infection of the surgical site, motivating that the hospital stay would be prolonged, representing a problem for the medical system. Surgical wound infections occur mainly within the first 30 days after surgery, being one ofthe main causes of nosocomial infection in Latín America, Maternal predisposing factors for post-surgical pathology in cesarean section are: obesity, urinary tract infection, nulliparity, previous cesarean sections; intrapartum and surgical factors such as chorioamnionitis, tearing of membranes, prolonged labor, incision length, subcutaneous tissue thickness greater than 3.5 cm, hematoma production and lack of antibiotic prophylaxis. lt was elaborated a review of scientific documentation based on the topic proposed in this research. lt was analyzed original articles with their last update and scientific literature published in Spanish or English during the last five years. According to the review of these articles, the risk factors for developing a surgical site infection can be modifiable and preventable during pregnancy, however, their prevalence and incidence are very different.
