MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional, and observational study. One hundred seventy-eight people were evaluated, including the teaching and administrative staff of the Catholic University of Cuenca Azogues campus. They were asked to proceed to complete a digital survey validated in Google Forms through a link sent to their institutional email address. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and Pearson's Chi-Square test. RESULTS: It was determined that most people with COVID-19 antecedents presented some manifestation in the oral cavity (81.8%). Females showed a higher percentage of manifestations (61.7%), as well as the teaching staff (61.7%) and patients with cardiovascular diseases (71.6%); however, there is no significant relationship between these variables. The most prevalent manifestation is xerostomia in males (15.15%) and in females (18.18%). Concerning age, people from 22-31 years old presented the highest percentage of total ageusia (5.05%), those from 32-41 years old experienced partial ageusia (8.08%), 42-51 years old (8.08%), and 52-59 years old (7.07%) had xerostomia as the most prevalent symptom. CONCLUSIONS: The COVID-19 infection tends to cause some form of manifestation in the oral cavity, with a higher prevalence in females. Xerostomia is the pathology that occurs most frequently. Oral manifestations could play a fundamental role in identifying undiagnosed patients with coronavirus disease.
