Results: The analysis of the profile of medical students at the Catholic University of Cuenca-Campus Azogues reveals a majority of women (63.9%) with a mean age of 21.3 years old and a predominance of mestizo ethnic group in the first cycle. Regarding knowledge about breastfeeding and formula feeding, it was found that most of them understand breastfeeding, but there is variability in knowledge about formula milk, with an overall index of 56.28%. Additionally, students have varied knowledge about breastfeeding and formula milk. Gender gaps and a lack of curriculum content are possible factors limiting knowledge, as many students do not feel adequately prepared to advise in this area. Conclusions: The perception of formula feeding in medical students is influenced by demographic factors, emphasizing the need for better education and gender equity.
