Resumen
This work investigates ecotourism management in Arenillas canton, focusing on determining its particular characteristics. The research was based on a document analysis of the theoretical elements that address ecotourism management and a current situation diagnosis of ecotourism development in the canton, which allowed the identification of the specific management characteristics in this region. The research adopted a mixed approach, integrating qualitative and quantitative research elements; the descriptive and analytical design allowed the examination of the individual and collective characteristics of the study population, as well as the different variables related to the perception and behavior of the ecotourism management at the local level; document analysis, interview analysis, and structured survey were used. Although there are significant efforts to promote tourism in general, it was found that the focus on ecotourism needs to be strengthened. Inter-institutional collaboration, digital media promotion, and training program implementation are vital for the success of ecotourism in the canton. The research also highlights the need for monitoring and evaluation systems to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of the initiatives.

El presente trabajo se trata de una investigación sobre la gestión del ecoturismo en el cantón Arenillas, enfocándose en determinar sus características particulares. La investigación se basó en un análisis documental de los elementos teóricos que abordan la gestión del ecoturismo y un diagnóstico de la situación actual del desarrollo ecoturístico en el cantón, que permitió la identificación de las características específicas de la gestión en esta región. La investigación adoptó un enfoque mixto, integrando elementos de investigación cualitativa y cuantitativa, el diseño descriptivo y analítico permitió examinar las características individuales y colectivas de la población de estudio, así como las relaciones entre diferentes variables relacionadas con la percepción y el comportamiento de la gestión del ecoturismo a nivel local, haciendo uso del análisis documental, análisis de entrevista y encuesta estructurada. Se encontró que, aunque existen esfuerzos significativos en promover el turismo en general, el enfoque en el ecoturismo necesita ser fortalecido. La colaboración interinstitucional, la promoción a través de medios digitales y la implementación de programas de capacitación son vitales para el éxito del ecoturismo en el cantón. La investigación también destaca la necesidad de sistemas de monitoreo y evaluación para asegurar la sostenibilidad y eficacia de las iniciativas.
