The main objective is to determine the prevalence of high-risk pregnancies among women in Ecuador through a bibliographical analysis. According to the National Institute of Statistics and Census, in 2018, 137 maternity deaths were recorded, representing a mortality rate of 41.4 per 100 thousand born alive; in 2019, there were 123 deaths, representing a mortality of 37 per 100 thousand born alive and by 2020 it reached 191 deaths, representing a rate of 57.6 deaths per 100 thousand born alive (2). The risk of maternal-neonatal death is associated with obstetrical hazard and may be either low, high or imminent. Method. Based on a systematic revision on scientific articles, which were searched in online databases such as Medline, PuBMeD, Elsevier, Scielo, among others, as well as in Google Scholar, according with the inclusion criteria. Results: The prevalence of high-risk pregnancy is quite variable, ranging from 60 to 70 0/0, with minimum percentages of non-risk pregnancies of 2 0/0. It is mainly affecting teenagers and pregnant women over 35 years of age in 40 % Conclusions: Factors influencing high risk in pregnancy are: teenage mothers or those over 35 years old, low or overweight mothers, uterine and ovarian pathologies, chronic non-transmissible diseases, consuming toxic substances, inadequate prenatal control, family history of pathologies, and hypertensive disorders during pregnancy.
