It is an acute inflammatory process, which affects the lung parenchyma. In the progression of CAP, the associated respiratory infectious agents differ according with age, epidemiology, geography, immunologic status, previous antimicrobial therapies, which induce mutations in etiologic agents as adaptive resistance mechanisms. Among the treatments of election are beta-lactams made up by: carbapenemics, monobactams, cephalosporins, beta-lactamase inhibitors and penicillins. The ability of beta-lactams to act on gram-negative, gram-positive and spirochetal bacteria. Due to the importance of the issue, the effectiveness of beta-lactam drugs in the treatment of CAP in patients over 18 years of age will be described . Development: A descriptive study was carried out through the search of published research papers in high-impact annexed pages on beta-lactams in community-acquired pneumonia. Subsequently, several significant studies were selected. Conclusion: Beta-lactam drugs used in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) have a high efficacy in monotherapy, however, due to their uncontrolled consumption, a high rate of bacterial resistance has been reported, which has led to the use of combined therapies, being beta-lactams with each other or with another antibiotic. It should be pointed out that the efficacy of a beta-lactam is adequate on a patient with non-severe pneumonia.
